During the years of the Holocaust, in a reality defined by persecution, hunger, violence, and loss, extraordinary acts of human courage also took place. Alongside the well-known stories of the Righteous Among the Nations, there existed another, lesser-known phenomenon: Jews who rescued fellow Jews.

In ghettos, concentration camps, hiding places, and along dangerous escape routes, there were individuals who chose to risk their lives in order to save others. Sometimes they were natural leaders within their communities; at other times they were ordinary people confronted with impossible choices who nevertheless decided to help. They shared food, hid children, smuggled people out of danger, and used whatever fragile authority or opportunity they had to protect others.

These acts occurred under conditions in which even the smallest gesture of assistance could lead to immediate death. Yet many chose to act, driven by a deep sense of responsibility toward their fellow human beings and toward their own community.

The documentary series “The Story of Jews Who Rescued Jews During the Holocaust” seeks to bring these stories to light. Through survivor testimonies, historical documents, and the research of Holocaust scholars, the films document individuals who acted with remarkable courage to save others despite overwhelming danger.

These are stories of human solidarity and moral courage in the darkest chapter of modern history.

במהלך שנות השואה, בתוך מציאות של רדיפה, רעב, אלימות ואובדן, התרחשו גם מעשים יוצאי דופן של אומץ אנושי. לצד סיפורי ההצלה המוכרים של חסידי אומות העולם, התקיימה תופעה פחות ידועה: יהודים שהצילו יהודים.

בגטאות, במחנות, במקומות מסתור ובדרכי הבריחה, היו אנשים שבחרו לסכן את חייהם כדי להציל אחרים. לעיתים היו אלה מנהיגים טבעיים בקהילה, ולעיתים אנשים פשוטים שעמדו בפני בחירה בלתי אפשרית — ובחרו לעזור. הם חלקו מזון, הסתירו ילדים, הבריחו אנשים ממקומות סכנה, או ניצלו את מעמדם הזמני כדי להגן על אחרים.

סדרת הסרטים “הסיפור של היהודים שהצילו יהודים בשואה” מבקשת להביא אל קדמת הבמה סיפורים אלו — סיפורי גבורה אנושיים שהתרחשו בתוך הקהילות היהודיות עצמן. באמצעות עדויות ניצולים, מסמכים היסטוריים, ומחקר של חוקרי שואה, הסדרה מתעדת דמויות שפעלו להצלת אחרים למרות הסכנה הגדולה.

הסרטים חושפים סיפורים אישיים של אנשים שבחרו לפעול, להגן ולהציל — לעיתים ללא כל סיכוי להכרה או לתהילה. הם פעלו מתוך ערכים של ערבות הדדית, אומץ לב, ואחריות אנושית.
